philosophywhat do i look for when capturing an image?it's an emotional thing, when i take a photo i try to capture the emotions i feel at that particular place and time and translate them from 3d to 2dwhen i have the image i use photographic (dark room) techniques to further enhance this, things like toning, dodging and burning, cropping etc i do this digitally but i only use techniques that can be reproduced in a darkroomwhat type of subjects do i take?simple and existing, not posed, you won't find me using studios or artificial light, no flash! wide ranging from simple flowers, if a flower could be called simple, to complex architectural structureswhy is most of my work b & w or toned?black and white lets you see objects without the distraction of colour, you focus on form, its curves, its texture, its emotions, the effect of natural light, you return to fundamentals with black and white, seeing in colour we miss the simpler things in an imagewhen i tone the print it's done to enhance and complete my vision of the imagei still use colour but not for its own sake, black and white is my favoritewhat is my favorite subject?something that tells a story, this could be scenes of urban decay or flowers fighting for existence |
